Randall has undertaken a diverse legal practice in Biloela, Brisbane and Toowoomba, appearing in various levels of state and federal courts. Randall entered the legal profession after many years holding teaching and leadership positions in a secondary and primary schools. His previous career has enhanced his performance in the legal profession in dealing with people and various legal matters.
Examples of Randall’s work include:
- Family Law:
- Negotiating, mediating and finalising parenting arrangements after separation, including parenting plans, consent orders, advice on child relocation, recovery orders and passport issues.
- Advising on divorce, spousal maintenance and child support issues.
- For property matters preparing pre-separation agreements, advising and drafting post-separation financial agreements or consent orders.
- The preparation of court documents and appearing before the Federal Circuit Court and the Family Court.
- Domestic Violence:
- Preparation of applications for domestic violence protection orders, negotiation of protection orders between the parties and appearing in court on behalf of both those seeking protection orders and those contesting such applications or responding to charges of breaches.
- Criminal Law and Traffic Offence:
- Providing advice and court representation in relation to criminal charges for adults and children, traffic offences, drink driving, restricted licence and SHO applications.
- Negotiating with police and prosecution, and presenting submissions when a client has entered a plea of guilty or is contesting charges.
- Commercial litigation/law:
- Providing advice in relation to partnership law, loan agreements and mortgage agreements.
- Providing solicitors certificates for guarantors for bank loans.
- Negotiation and court representation in relation to contractual disputes, debt recovery and compensation claims.

Mark Downie was admitted as a lawyer in 2003. Mark acts in civil litigation, building and construction, commercial law, business law, asset protection, estate planning and not-for-profit law.
Mark resolves disputes. Mark has litigated matters in all Queensland and federal courts including the High Court of Australia. Mark also litigates matters in New South Wales and Victoria.
Mark helps small to medium-sized enterprises smooth out bumps on the way to growth. He provides real and practical advice on how managers can deal with difficult legal issues in order to reach the best economic solutions. Mark also assists larger enterprises with their day-to-day commercial needs. Mark is able to lead teams. Following secondments to The University of Queensland from Sparke Helmore Lawyers, McKays Solicitors’ Brisbane office (now Cornwalls) and DownieLaw, he was Director, Legal Office of The University of Queensland until his return to full time private practice at DL Legal in 2016. Mark is able to manage transactional matters including complex commercial agreements, construction contracts, property dealings, property development and leasing.

- building industry fairness matters and payment disputes;
- acting for universities, hospitals, family office, property developers, mining companies, principals, construction contractors, superintendents, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers, retirement village scheme operators, buyers, sellers, shareholders, directors, sole traders, partners, doctors, accountants and other professionals in relation to a broad range of legal agreements;
- providing independent advice to commercial property sellers, buyers, landlords, tenants, mortgagees, mortgagors, guarantors, lenders and other clients in need of such advice;
- advising on the impact of legislation and regulation including procedural fairness, disclosure obligations and compliance actions; and
- advising clients on testamentary trusts, asset protection and estate planning to achieve the directions and wishes of high wealth individuals.
Mark is a member of the Queensland Law Society and the QUT Alumni. Mark is a former member of the The University of Queensland’s Legislative Committee, Queensland University of Technology’s Law Academic Board and Queensland University of Technology’s Law Library Acquisitions Committee.
